What exactly is an API and how does it work?

What exactly is an API? There's a good chance you've heard of APIs but may not be entirely sure what they are or how they can help you in your business.

An API (Application Programming Interface) is a set of rules that allows two pieces of software to communicate with each other. For example, in the context of real estate, an API can be used to pull data from MLS listings and display that data on your website or app.

Data integration can only be done with an open API, so the question you need to consider when setting up your systems and purchasing a new tool is: Does this tool have an open API?

One of the main benefits of leveraging API in your real estate business is that it can save you time and money by automating tasks that would otherwise need to be done manually.

Additionally, using an API can help you scale your business by allowing you to develop new features and functionality quickly and easily.

And finally, using an API gives you the ability to tap into a wealth of data that you can use to make better-informed decisions about your business.

You can also check out this video from MuleSoft where they explain very clearly what is and API.
